Method

How it works

The estimator does arithmetic on published fees and nothing else.
  1. Step 1

    Pick your route

Destination and profession select one of our published guides, and its fee rows.
  2. Step 2

    Usual route counted

Application, assessment, exam and first registration fees on the usual route are added up. Where a regulator publishes a range, both ends are shown.
  3. Step 3

    You add the rest

Resits, compensation measures, specialist routes and visa fees are listed separately. Tick the ones that apply to you.
  4. Step 4

    Nothing guessed

Unpublished fees are marked and excluded. Every line links the official page and shows the date we checked it.

At a glance

Usual-route fees by route

The total of published fees on the usual route for each profession, before resits, options and visa fees. Where a country has a choice of state or chamber, the first is shown. Checked 20 October 2026.

FAQ

Questions about registration fees

Every amount is a fee stated on our guide for that profession and country, which takes it from the regulator, exam body or government page linked on each line. Each line shows its source and the date it was checked. We do not estimate or round any fee.

Some costs are set by a third party (an English test provider, a university, a state board or a German chamber) or are only shown at the payment step. Where no official figure is published, the line says so and the amount is left out of the total, so the total is never padded with a guess.

Not by default. Visa and permit fees appear only where our guide states them, for example the Health and Care Worker visa fee from GOV.UK or the Irish Critical Skills Employment Permit fee. Tick them to add them. Money you must hold for a visa, such as UK maintenance funds, is shown but is not a fee and is never added.

The NMC's own fees for the evaluation, the CBT, the OSCE and registration come to £1,226, assuming you pass both tests first time, which matches the figure the NMC publishes. Visa fees, travel and the annual fee after you join are extra.

Some regulators publish a fee as a range, for example a German state authority that charges between two amounts depending on the work involved, or a UK registration fee that is pro rata by the month you join. The estimator adds up the lowest and highest stated amounts and shows both.

Resits, aptitude tests, specialist routes and other costs that only apply to some applicants are listed under Depends on your case. They are not in the total until you tick them.

Annual or two-yearly fees that you pay after joining the register are listed under After you register, with their amounts, but are not added to the cost of getting registered.

Flights, accommodation, translations, notarised copies, courses, test preparation and test-centre travel are not included unless a line states them. Employer-paid costs, such as the US H-1B payment or the German fast-track procedure fee, are shown for information only.

Each route is shown in the currency of the destination: pounds sterling for the UK, euros for Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands, and US dollars for the USA. Exchange rates are not applied.

We only list fees where we have published a checked guide for that profession in that country. If there is no guide yet, the estimator says so and links the profession page, which explains who regulates the profession in each country we cover.
