About Limassol General

Limassol General Hospital in Kato Polemidia is one of the 9 hospitals of the State Health Services Organisation (SHSO, OKYpY), Cyprus's public hospital operator, and belongs to SHSO's Limassol-Paphos directorate of hospitals.

Its own page lists 137 medical officers, 602 nursing officers and 101 other health professionals, 6 operating theatres and 329 inpatient beds. SHSO describes itself as the largest healthcare provider in Cyprus, with 36 health centres and more than 7,000 employees.

The hospital's clinics and departments include accident and emergency, anaesthesiology, cardiology, intensive care, a neonatal intensive care unit, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, general surgery, orthopaedics, oncology, nephrology, neurology, nuclear medicine, haematology, hepatology and a thalassaemia service.

Limassol General recruits through SHSO. In October 2026 SHSO advertised seven doctors' posts across its hospitals, three of them at Limassol General: two in nephrology and one in the accident and emergency department. The notice sets the national SHSO rules on citizenship, language and registration.

For internationally trained professionals of every kind, those rules mean Limassol General is open mainly to Cypriot and EU citizens. A non-EU citizen can be considered only if the Council of Ministers allows it in a special case, and every applicant needs very good Greek and registration with the Cyprus council for their profession before starting.

  • Neonatal intensive care and paediatrics

A neonatal intensive care unit and a paediatric department.

International recruitment

  • Limassol General Hospital does not have its own recruitment pages. SHSO publishes vacancies for all its hospitals on its Careers page, and we found no international recruitment programme there.
  • The October 2026 SHSO notice that included Limassol posts says no one is appointed unless they are a citizen of Cyprus or another EU member state. The Council of Ministers may, in a special case and in the public interest, allow a non-EU citizen to apply under the SHSO General Regulations of 2017, and such a person can then be appointed on a fixed-term contract, or permanently only in limited cases.
  • The notice asks for registration in the Cyprus Medical Register or in another EU state's register, a specialty certificate in the advertised field, very good Greek and good English, French or German. Before starting, the doctor must be in the Cyprus Medical Register and hold a licence from the Cyprus Medical Association.
  • Appointees can be moved to other SHSO departments anywhere in Cyprus when operational needs require it, so a Limassol post is not guaranteed to stay in Limassol.
  • For non-EU nurses, Cyprus's Nursing and Midwifery Council can register you if you hold a Department of Labour work permit and a residence permit, but we did not see a current SHSO nursing notice to confirm its eligibility rules for nursing posts.

What you need before you can be hired

  • Citizenship: Cypriot or EU, unless the Council of Ministers allows a non-EU citizen to apply in a special case.

  • Doctors: Cyprus Medical Council registration (registration in another EU state is enough to apply) and a Cyprus Medical Association licence before you start. For non-EU degrees the Council asks for KYSATS equivalence, EPIC verification and C1 Greek.

  • A specialty certificate in the advertised specialty, recognised under the Registration of Doctors Law.

  • Very good Greek and good English, French or German, proved by the closing date through the Public Service Commission's list of accepted evidence or by exam.

  • Nurses: registration and a licence from the Cyprus Nursing and Midwifery Council, which tests elementary Greek at an interview.

How to apply

  1. Register with the Cyprus Medical Council

File the registration application with certified copies, KYSATS equivalence, EPIC verification and C1 Greek, and the €300 fee. Specialists also apply for recognition of their specialty title.
  2. Check you are eligible

Read the general conditions of appointment in the SHSO notice. Without Cypriot or EU citizenship, you need a Council of Ministers exception.
  3. Watch the SHSO Careers page

Notices on shso.org.cy list the specialties and hospitals, for example Limassol General, with the closing date.
  4. Apply online in Greek

Submit the application in Greek through the link on the SHSO Careers page before the deadline; late applications are not considered.
  5. Prove your languages

Have evidence of very good Greek and good English, French or German, from the Public Service Commission's accepted list, ready by the closing date.
  6. License before you start

Provide your Cyprus Medical Register entry and your Cyprus Medical Association licence to practise before the appointment takes effect.
