Cedars-Sinai Jobs, Salaries & Visa Sponsorship

Cedars-Sinai is a nonprofit academic medical center in Los Angeles that began in 1902 as a 12-bed hospital. It publishes no international recruitment program, so doctors, nurses, pharmacists and therapists trained abroad need the right California license, and visa options are set program by program or role by role.

About Cedars-Sinai

Cedars-Sinai began in 1902 as a 12-bed hospital in the Angelino Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. Today it says it serves more than 1 million people a year in over 40 locations, with more than 4,500 physicians and nurses and 1,500 research projects.

The main medical center is on Beverly Boulevard on the west side of Los Angeles.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center was named to the U.S. News & World Report 2026-2027 Best Hospitals Honor Roll, which lists 20 hospitals in alphabetical order. It also runs Cedars-Sinai Health Sciences University for education and research.

For internationally trained clinicians, the main hurdle is California licensing. Nurses apply to the Board of Registered Nursing, which evaluates foreign transcripts itself against California's own educational requirements, and Cedars-Sinai's nursing careers page asks new graduates to hold a California RN license before their program begins. Pharmacists, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed staff each need a license from their own California board first.

For doctors, Cedars-Sinai runs residency and fellowship programs whose visa options are listed program by program. We did not find a single published institution-wide visa policy for clinical or research staff.

International recruitment

  • Nurses: we found no international nurse recruitment program on Cedars-Sinai's own pages. Its nursing careers page describes a New-Graduate Registered Nurse Residency Program with starts throughout the year and tells applicants to have their California Registered Nurse license before the program begins.
  • Internationally educated nurses usually reach California employers after getting a California RN license, applying directly or through an agency that arranges an EB-3 green card petition with a named employer. Ask any agency which employer will sign your petition.
  • Doctors: Cedars-Sinai residency and fellowship programs list their visa options on their own pages and on the AMA's FREIDA database, where many show J-1 sponsorship through ECFMG. H-1B availability varies by program. Check each program before applying.
  • Observerships: we found no general observership program for international graduates on Cedars-Sinai's pages.

What you need before you can be hired

  • Registered nurses: a California RN license from the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN). Graduates of international nursing programs must have official transcripts mailed to the BRN with its breakdown of educational program form, meet all California educational requirements (completing an approved course for anything missing) and pass the NCLEX-RN. The BRN evaluates the education itself.

  • Visa for nurses: VisaScreen is required for most foreign registered nurses before a visa is issued. For most internationally educated nurses the long-term route is an employer-sponsored green card in the EB-3 category. USCIS says professional nurses are a Schedule A occupation, so the employer does not need a DOL-approved labor certification first; your wait then depends on the State Department Visa Bulletin for your country of birth.

  • Doctors: ECFMG certification (which includes passing USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 CK), a residency place through ERAS and the National Resident Matching Program, any training license the Medical Board of California requires, and a visa the program supports.

  • H-1B: USCIS says certain new H-1B petitions filed at or after 12:01 a.m. Eastern on September 21, 2025 must be accompanied by an additional $100,000 payment unless an exception applies, so check with the employer before relying on an H-1B.

How to apply

  1. 1. Start California licensure early

Send the BRN's transcript request and breakdown of educational program forms to your nursing school, which must mail official transcripts to the board. Allow time for any course deficiencies to be identified.
  2. 2. Pass the NCLEX-RN

Once the BRN approves your eligibility, register with Pearson VUE and pass the NCLEX-RN.
  3. 3. Search careers.cshs.org

Cedars-Sinai's nursing jobs, including new-graduate residency cohorts, are posted on its careers site. Check each posting for license and work authorization requirements.
  4. 4. Doctors: check each program's visa options

Read the program page and FREIDA listing, then apply through ERAS.
  5. 5. Complete immigration steps

Nurses complete VisaScreen and an EB-3 petition with the sponsoring employer; residents complete ECFMG J-1 sponsorship or the H-1B process if the program offers it.

Pay

There is no national pay scale in the US, and we found no general salary scale published by Cedars-Sinai on the pages we reviewed. These are Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics (OEWS) estimates for the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, CA metropolitan area, May 2025. They cover all employers in the area, not Cedars-Sinai alone. Values are annual medians; the notes give the annual mean. Physicians are not shown because training doctors are paid a stipend set by their program.
  • Registered nurses

Questions

We found no international recruitment program or institution-wide sponsorship statement on Cedars-Sinai's own pages, for nurses or for other staff. Ask the recruiter about the specific role. Many foreign-educated nurses use an EB-3 green card filed by an employer, and resident visa options are set by each program.

For licensed clinical roles, plan on it. Cedars-Sinai tells new-graduate nurse applicants to have a California RN license before their program begins, and pharmacists, therapists and other licensed professionals need a license from their California board to practice.

The Board of Registered Nursing reviews your official transcripts, mailed by your school, against California's educational requirements. If anything is missing you must complete an approved course before the NCLEX-RN.

It varies by program. Many list J-1 sponsorship through ECFMG on the AMA FREIDA database; check each program's own page.

BLS put the median registered nurse wage in the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim metro area at $135,560 a year in May 2025, across all employers.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is on the U.S. News & World Report 2026-2027 Best Hospitals Honor Roll, which lists 20 hospitals alphabetically.
