About Guy's and St Thomas'
Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust runs five hospitals in London: Guy's, St Thomas', Evelina London Children's Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield, alongside community services.
The trust describes itself as one of the UK's largest NHS foundation trusts and one of the largest employers in London.
In 2025/26 the trust reports 23,900 staff, 3.1 million patient contacts, 86,000 inpatients, 207,000 emergency department attendances and an annual turnover of £3.3 billion. Royal Brompton and Harefield, a specialist heart and lung service, joined the trust on 1 February 2021.
With King's College London and its partners in King's Health Partners, the trust forms one of the UK's eight Academic Health Science Centres. Its teaching hospitals train doctors, nurses and other health professionals, and it is a large centre for clinical research.
For an internationally trained professional, the practical points are that the trust holds a Home Office sponsor licence and recruits through Trac. Its one published international programme is for nurses; doctors, midwives and allied health professionals apply to advertised posts. You still need UK registration with the NMC, GMC or HCPC before you can practise in a registered role.

International recruitment
- The trust's nursing and midwifery careers page has a section for nurses who trained outside the UK. It directs them to the NMC for registration and says that information and contact details for 'our international nurse programme' are on the Capital Nurse website.
- We did not find a separate international recruitment page for doctors or allied health professionals on the trust's careers site. Doctors and allied health professionals usually apply directly to advertised posts once they hold, or are close to holding, GMC or HCPC registration.
- The trust's job offer guidance says it checks that every new starter has the legal right to work in the UK as part of its pre-employment checks.
- Home Office sponsor register: we checked the register of licensed sponsors (workers) on GOV.UK on 21 October 2026, in the version dated 20 October 2026. Guy's and St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is listed in London with an A rating for the Skilled Worker route. Being listed means the organisation can assign certificates of sponsorship; it does not mean every vacancy is open to sponsorship, so check the advert and ask the recruiting team.
What you need before you can be hired
Nurses and midwives: registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). If you trained outside the UK you pass the NMC test of competence (a computer-based test and the OSCE) and show English at NMC level, for example IELTS Academic 7 in listening, reading and speaking and 6.5 in writing, or OET grade B with C+ in writing.
Doctors: registration with a licence to practise from the General Medical Council (GMC). Most international graduates qualify through PLAB 1 and PLAB 2 or an acceptable postgraduate qualification, and the GMC asks for IELTS Academic 7.5 overall with at least 7.0 in each area, or OET Medicine grade B in every skill.
Allied health professionals such as physiotherapists and radiographers: registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) through its international route, with an HCPC-accepted English test unless you qualified in a country on its list.
Visa: if you do not already have the right to work in the UK, you need a job offer and a certificate of sponsorship from an approved employer, then usually the Health and Care Worker visa. GOV.UK sets the eligibility, salary and fee rules, not the employer.
Pre-employment checks: the trust lists right to work, references, criminal record and occupational health checks among the checks it completes before you start.

You need NMC registration to work as a registered nurse or midwife. International programmes usually let you complete the OSCE after arrival, but you should already have passed the CBT and English test. Check the programme details before applying.
We found no separate international doctor scheme on the trust's careers site. Doctors apply to advertised posts through Trac and need GMC registration with a licence to practise, usually through PLAB or an acceptable postgraduate qualification.
