About Beaumont

Beaumont Hospital, incorporating St Joseph's Hospital in Raheny, is a major academic teaching hospital in north Dublin and the principal teaching hospital of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).

It also has close links with Dublin City University for nurse education. The hospital opened on 29 November 1987, after the Charitable Infirmary in Jervis Street and St Laurence's (the Richmond) closed and transferred to it.

The hospital has 1,058 beds (inpatient and day case) and over 4,500 multidisciplinary staff. In 2024 it treated 27,671 inpatient admissions, 78,084 day patients and 66,608 emergency department attendances, and held 213,398 consultant-led outpatient appointments.

Beaumont is Ireland's largest national neuroscience centre and the base of the National Kidney Transplant Service, which carried out 189 kidney transplants at Beaumont in 2023. It is also a national cochlear implant centre and a designated cancer centre; the Beaumont RCSI Cancer Centre received OECI accreditation in April 2022.

Following the creation of the HSE health regions, Beaumont says it is designated within HSE Dublin and North East, where it is the lead level 4 academic hospital among the former RCSI Hospital Group hospitals. Pay follows the HSE consolidated salary scales.

International recruitment

  • Beaumont's careers pages describe its recruitment team, staff benefits and development opportunities, including postgraduate programmes with RCSI and DCU, an internal coaching programme, a crèche and staff counselling. They do not set out a dedicated international recruitment programme or a relocation package, so ask the recruitment office what support comes with an offer.
  • Vacancies are advertised on Beaumont's iCIMS careers portal, reached from the Career Opportunities link on beaumont.ie. The recruitment office takes queries at [email protected] or +353 1 809 2575.
  • The HSE says many international nurses and health and social care professionals are recruited through a small number of agencies that manage the process on its behalf. Beaumont does not name agencies on its careers pages, so apply directly to advertised posts or check with the hospital before using an agency.
  • The HSE also runs an international relocation package (up to €4,160 from the EU or UK, €4,710 from outside the EU) and says it covers initial costs such as regulator registration and visa fees. Beaumont is not a direct HSE employer, so confirm which terms apply.

What you need before you can be hired

  • Registration with the Irish regulator for your profession before you practise: the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) for nurses and midwives, the Irish Medical Council (IMC) for doctors, CORU for professions such as physiotherapy, radiography and medical science, and the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) for pharmacists. Qualifications gained outside the EU are assessed first, and NMBI or CORU may set a compensation measure such as an aptitude test or a period of adaptation.

  • Doctors apply to the IMC in the division that fits the post. The IMC says doctors seeking the General or Trainee Specialist Division may be required to sit the Pre-Registration Examination System (PRES), and that a pass in the UK PLAB 2 can exempt you. The IMC also points to registration in the Supervised Division as another route; check its eligibility chart for the division that fits your post.

  • English: NMBI asks for IELTS Academic overall 7.0 (7.0 in three components and 6.5 in one) or OET with B in three components and C+ in one, from a single sitting less than two years old. The IMC, CORU and PSI set their own tests and scores.

  • An employment permit if you are not an EEA, UK or Swiss citizen. The Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment (DETE) issues the Critical Skills Employment Permit for occupations on its Critical Skills list, including doctors, nurses and midwives. It needs a two-year job offer; for public sector roles covered by a pay agreement the salary is the agreed rate; nurses and midwives need a qualification NMBI accepts. The fee is €1,000, with 90% refunded if refused, and DETE asks for applications at least 12 weeks before the start date.

  • Non-consultant hospital doctors (NCHDs) may instead hold a two-year Multi-Site General Employment Permit, which Irish Immigration Service Delivery links to Stamp 1H and describes as carrying similar benefits to a Critical Skills permit.

  • Pre-employment checks: the HSE recruitment process includes screening, interview, Garda vetting, recognition of qualifications and an occupational health check before a formal offer. If you need an entry visa, you apply after the permit is granted, and you register your immigration permission once you arrive.

How to apply

  1. Start your registration

Apply to NMBI, the IMC, CORU or the PSI. Neuroscience, renal and critical care posts often ask for specialist experience, so gather evidence of it with your references.
  2. Search the Beaumont careers portal

From beaumont.ie, open Career Opportunities to reach the iCIMS portal, filter by staff category and read each job specification.
  3. Apply online

Submit your application through the portal before the closing date. Queries go to [email protected].
  4. Interview and checks

Shortlisted candidates are interviewed. Expect reference checks, Garda vetting, occupational health clearance and registration checks before a formal offer.
  5. Permit and arrival

With a two-year offer, apply to DETE for a Critical Skills Employment Permit at least 12 weeks before your start date. Then apply for an entry visa if you need one and register your immigration permission after arriving.

Pay

Beaumont is a publicly funded hospital managed by a board, and posts are paid on the HSE consolidated salary scales; it does not publish separate ranges. These are annual basic salaries effective from 1 June 2026, after the 1% increase under the Public Service Agreement 2024-2026. Your starting point depends on recognised experience. Allowances, such as the nurses' location allowance (€2,798) and specialist qualification allowance (€4,204) where they apply, and premium pay for nights, Sundays and on-call are paid on top.

If you are not an EEA, UK or Swiss citizen, nurses, midwives and doctors usually need a Critical Skills Employment Permit, which requires a two-year job offer. DETE charges €1,000 and refunds 90% if refused. Non-consultant hospital doctors may instead hold a Multi-Site General Employment Permit with Stamp 1H.

For nursing and midwifery registration, NMBI asks for IELTS Academic overall 7.0 (7.0 in three components, 6.5 in one) or OET with B in three components and C+ in one, from a single sitting less than two years old.
