Passeport talent (talent card, medical and pharmacy professions)

Definition

Passeport talent was the name of France's multi-year residence card for skilled foreign workers; it is now the carte de séjour pluriannuelle talent. Its category talent - profession médicale et de la pharmacie lets doctors, dentists, midwives and pharmacists with an authorisation under the French public health code live and work in France for up to four years without a separate work authorisation.

Also called: passeport talent, carte de séjour talent, talent card France, talent profession médicale et de la pharmacie, carte talent médecin, golden visa médical

What is the passeport talent now?

People still search for passeport talent, but the card is now called the multi-year talent residence card (carte de séjour pluriannuelle talent), and the old name survives in older texts such as the 2016 order on supporting documents. The card has several categories, including qualified employee, EU Blue Card and researcher. Article L. 421-13-1 of the immigration code (CESEDA) created a dedicated category for health workers, talent - profession médicale et de la pharmacie, and decree 2025-539 of 13 June 2025 set its pay condition.

Service-Public lists the conditions as an authorisation to practise under the public health code and a gross annual salary of at least €41,386.48, which it describes as the second step of the praticien associé pay scale. For PADHUE that authorisation can be an assignment decision after the EVC, a certificate allowing temporary practice, or a full autorisation d'exercice. Your employer does not need a separate work authorisation.

How to get it

  1. From abroad, stay under 12 months. The French consulate issues a long-stay visa marked talent that counts as a residence permit (VLS-TS). Validate it online within three months of arrival.
  2. From abroad, stay of a year or more. The consulate issues a three-month visa. Apply for the card within two months of entering France.
  3. Already in France. Apply online on the ANEF platform. For the medical category, Service-Public says to apply within the two months before your current permit expires.
  4. Upload the common documents: valid visa or permit, passport, proof of address under six months old, digital photo, signed commitment to the principles of the Republic, plus the employer attestation and authorisation documents for your category.
  5. When the prefecture confirms the card is ready, pay the tax and collect it.

How long it lasts and what it costs

Service-Public says salaried talent cards last as long as the employment contract, up to four years. If the card is granted you pay €350 in tax stamps, made up of €50 stamp duty and a €300 tax, bought online or at an equipped tobacconist. The attestation de dépôt you receive online on filing is only a receipt.

Family members

Service-Public says the accompanying family of a talent card holder, a spouse and minor children, can receive a talent-famille multi-year card without going through the standard family reunion procedure. Confirm the family arrangements with your prefecture before your family travels.

Common problems

  • Pay below the floor. The €41,386.48 figure is gross annual pay; check your contract against it.
  • Authorisation and card out of step. The card depends on your authorisation under the public health code, so plan renewals around the end of your PCC or provisional certificate.
  • Nurses. The medical category covers doctors, dentists, midwives and pharmacists. Nurses usually use the salarié card instead; see titre de séjour.
  • Silence from the prefecture. No answer after four months is an implicit refusal, which you can challenge within two months.
