About Motol

Fakultní nemocnice Motol a Homolka (FNMH) was created on 1 January 2026, when the Ministry of Health merged two hospitals it directly manages: Motol University Hospital (Fakultní nemocnice v Motole) and Na Homolce Hospital.

FNMH is the successor organisation and takes over all rights and obligations, including employment and contractual relationships. It describes itself as the largest hospital in the Czech Republic, providing care on two neighbouring sites in Prague 5, Motol and Homolka.

FNMH is a state contributory organisation (státní příspěvková organizace) directly managed by the Ministry of Health, established by a decision of the Minister of Health of 25 November 1990. It provides basic, specialised and highly specialised care for children, adults and older people, teaches medical students and runs clinical research. Most of its clinics are joint clinics of the Second Faculty of Medicine of Charles University (2. LF UK), with some linked to the First Faculty.

Motol is known in particular for its large children's hospital: FNMH lists clinics for paediatric haematology and oncology, a children's heart centre, paediatric surgery, paediatric neurology, child psychiatry and combined clinics for children and adults in neurosurgery, orthopaedics and traumatology, and ophthalmology. The Ministry says both sites keep their own professional structure and identity after the merger.

For an internationally trained doctor, nurse or other health professional, the practical point is that FNMH hires within the Czech system. We could not find any page from FNMH, Motol or Homolka describing an international recruitment programme, so plan on the national recognition route for your profession, good Czech and an ordinary application to an advertised post.

International recruitment

  • FNMH, Motol and Homolka do not describe an international recruitment programme, overseas recruitment campaign, agency partner or relocation package on the pages we could check. We could not access the Motol site (fnmotol.cz) directly when researching this page, so confirm with the hospital's HR department before relying on this.
  • The Homolka site's careers page, now run by FNMH, is available in Czech, English and Ukrainian. It asks for a CV in PDF format of up to 5 MB and gives [email protected] as the contact for applications.
  • In practice, non-EU doctors and nurses reach the hospital through the Ministry of Health's recognition route: nostrification, the aprobační zkouška in Czech and a recognition decision. During the practical part of the examination a doctor works for 6 months under supervision in a facility accredited by the Ministry; the Ministry's list of accredited facilities moved to the Systém Administrace accreditation catalogue on 1 July 2026, so check there whether FNMH holds a current accreditation for your profession.
  • Doctors trained outside the EU can also ask the Ministry of Health for a time-limited permission to practise for the purpose of gaining experience, without recognition. This is a separate procedure from employment after full recognition.

What you need before you can be hired

  • Recognition by the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic. With a non-EU diploma you need nostrification at a Czech university, then the aprobační zkouška (written tests, a supervised practical part and an oral examination). Nurses receive a certificate of passing and then apply for recognition separately.

  • Czech. The doctors' approbation examination is held entirely in Czech, and the nurses' oral examination is in Czech only. The Ministry does not publish a CEFR level, so expect to need working clinical Czech for any post with patient contact.

  • Membership of the Czech Medical Chamber (ČLK) for doctors before practising. Czech specialist training is separate from recognition, and the practical part of the approbation examination does not count towards it.

  • An employee card or EU Blue Card. The Ministry's order is: job offer, nostrification, the Ministry's decision allowing you to work, then the residence permit application.

  • EU, EEA and Swiss citizens with EU-listed diplomas are recognised without the approbation examination, but still need Czech for patient care.

How to apply

  1. Start recognition and Czech early

Begin nostrification at a Czech university and learn Czech. Read the Ministry of Health's pages for your profession to see which deadlines and examinations apply.
  2. Pass the written part of the approbation examination

Doctors, dentists and pharmacists apply to the Ministry by 1 February or 1 August and sit the written tests at IPVZ. Nurses apply through the Ministry's EZP system for tests organised by NCO NZO.
  3. Find a place for the practical part

Search the Ministry's accreditation catalogue at systemadministrace.cz/akreditace for facilities accredited for the practical part, and ask FNMH whether it has a supervised place in your field.
  4. Apply to an advertised vacancy

Use the careers sections linked from fnmh.cz: the Motol site at fnmotol.cz and the Homolka site at homolka.cz/kariera. Homolka asks for a CV in PDF of up to 5 MB, sent to [email protected].
  5. Secure your permit and register

With the Ministry decision and a job offer, apply for an employee card or Blue Card. Doctors join the Czech Medical Chamber once recognised.

Pay

FNMH is a state contributory organisation, so staff are paid a salary (plat) under the government pay tables in Regulation No. 341/2017 Coll., in the version in force from 1 April 2026. Doctors fall in pay classes 12 to 15 and general nurses in classes 10 to 13, with the step set by recognised years of experience. The figures are basic monthly tariffs and exclude allowances, bonuses and on-call pay. FNMH does not publish its own salary ranges.

Questions

Since 1 January 2026 the legal employer is Fakultní nemocnice Motol a Homolka (FNMH), formed by merging Motol University Hospital with Na Homolce Hospital. The Motol site keeps its own clinics and identity, and FNMH took over all employment relationships.

It hires within the Czech system. We found no international recruitment programme. A non-EU doctor needs nostrification and the aprobační zkouška, or a time-limited Ministry permission to practise, and nurses and other non-medical health professionals need the Ministry of Health's recognition of their qualification, before working there.

Yes for any clinical post. The doctors' approbation examination is entirely in Czech and the nurses' oral examination is in Czech only, and you will care for Czech-speaking patients.

Only at a facility the Ministry of Health has accredited for it. Since 1 July 2026 the list is in the Ministry's accreditation catalogue at systemadministrace.cz/akreditace; check it and ask FNMH whether it has a place.

FNMH does not describe a sponsorship programme. A job offer supports your own application for an employee card or EU Blue Card, made after the Ministry of Health issues its decision allowing you to work.

As a state contributory organisation FNMH pays under Regulation No. 341/2017 Coll. A specialist doctor in class 14 has a basic tariff of CZK 52,000 to 70,010 a month from 1 April 2026, before allowances and on-call pay.

Most clinics are joint clinics of FNMH and the Second Faculty of Medicine of Charles University, and some are linked to the First Faculty of Medicine.

The Homolka careers page asks for a CV in PDF of up to 5 MB and gives [email protected] as the contact. It is available in Czech, English and Ukrainian.
